A ubiquitous sight across the battlefields of the Frontier, the GT-7 Larum is the Republic's default general purpose transport craft. Equally capable of atmospheric and spaceborne operations, the Larum is used by both the Republic Navy and Army, as well as by a host of planetary law enforcement and first response organizations. For the former clients, it operates as the default inter-fleet shuttle of the URN, while it is used as a light transport and air assault craft by the URA.
Featuring an expansive cargo bay, the Larum is able to transport heavy loads, carrying everything from water and rations packs to ordinance and even a half-dozen Scutia battlemechs. The Larum can also serve as a med-evac to transport the wounded to trauma units.
For planetary combat operations, the Larum is capable of transporting forty soldiers in its expansive cargo bay. It is capable of quickly traversing the battlespace, and its repeller-pulse drive allows it to hover low over the ground while its passengers disembark through a series of outward folding doors that line its cargo bay.
The craft also has a unique rapid assault system comprised of flexible tethers. Airborne legionnaires' power armor is secured to a magnetic clasp, and drop doors under their feet allow them to fall free from the craft, suspended by the tether alone.
As the dropship approaches its target, the craft decelerates and the soldiers swing forward toward their objective. An electrical charge from the Larum causes the tether to become rigid, and the air assault troopers release their connection using a signal from their armor.
This tactic allows for a large number of soldiers to be deployed precisely where they are needed, ready to engage the enemy.
Impressed by the Larum's performance under fire, the Umbrian Republic Navy has begun to experiment with using the Larum for space bound assaults. While the Ascomanni have not shown themselves to be prodigious builders of space stations or other infrastructure, the Magistracy of the Navy has started to lay the groundwork for using these flexible craft to deliver soldiers to enemy installations or warships.
